My two favorites are the original versions of Master of Orion and X-Com are my favorite. Spent way too much time playing them ... I still do actually.

Ancient PC Games
What ancient PC have you played and/or enjoyed the most? When I say ancient, I mean really old.

I was thinking more in terms of DOS, but Diablo II is certainly in my top 5 list.

Planescape Torment is my absolute favorite older PC game. Awesome characters, environment and story. Though I am not sure how old you are talking about, if you mean OLD old I think the Adventure Construction Set that was remade for the Amiga was fun.

Re: Ancient PC Games
Master of Orion. I still have it somewhere. But it's simply a bit too fast moving on newer computers now... Used to play it a ton.
Also, the best series of all time - Quest For Glory (Used to be Heros Quest, but there was a board game by that name, so they had to change it to avoid law suits.) Then there was Wolfenstein 3D, that Ski game on Windows 3.1 and 95 as well, I think.
Warcradt : Orcs and Humans. No right clicking to move. You had to click the move button for each unit. But it was quite easy against the PC. Except the last missions for both sides.
What else... Lucky Luke, Sim City (the original), Commander Keen (up to Keen Dreems or whatever it was called...) and a load of other titles that I had on floppy discs. I think Jazz, the Jackrabbit too...

Re: Ancient PC Games
lets just say that the first big-ish online community I became part of was the forum on an abandonware site
I love old games - from the era where game concepts could still be new, where genuine innovation was possible, and where something completely unheard of wasn't that uncommon
the TIM (The Incredible Machine) games were awesome
The commander Keen line of games (played all six, plus keen dreams)
Atomic Bomberman
Civilization, civilization 2
Sid Meyer's Alpha Centauri (also known as SMAC) - the greatest 'civilization' game ever made. period. no contest.
Settlers 2 was fun
heroes of Might and magic 2 and 3 - 2 was probably the first really good turn based strategy game I ever played, and I still occationally playe 3
Duke Nukem 1, 2 and 3D - ah... when FPS games were good...
sim city, tower, 2000 - all those good old games
Constructor (and Underworld) - hilarious games
I could go on... so many lesser known games I tried and loved

I remember the first time I beat it. I yelped in front of the whole class during Library (Might as well be computer class =P). XD
Anyone remember this game during the early days of PC gaming? Chips Challenge! I used to play this game all day!
Also, anyone remember Where in the World is Carmen San Diego for Apple? XD

I've got X-Com on my flashdrive. With a Win95 emulator so could play it without a problem.

Re: Ancient PC Games
I remember having this floppy disk full of different games that my grandpa gave me. Ski Freak was one of the games I was actually afraid to play, that god damn yeti. On that same floppy was also a cat and mouse game where you just had to avoid a cat in a maze. It was fun, but surprisingly gruesome if you got caught.
Then there was this one game that I can't remember the name of for the life of me. For a game as old as it was, it was extremely colorful, it was a racing game. Kind of like tron, with primaries on a black backdrop, but it was crazy fun. Despite all the crashing I did. :B
